先日取り上げたLIBORの操作の件で、Barclays では会長に続いて、CEO,COOも退任に追い込まれたという記事。

インド政府のガソリンへの補助金取りやめがガソリン車の売り上げを急減させ、デイーゼル車の販売を増やしているという記事。

マルチ・スズキはMaruti Suzukiなんですね。これまでMulti Suzukiかと思っていました。

ちなみに、一ガロン当たりの価格を比較すると、ガソリンは4.63ドル。ディーゼルは2.82ドル。

日本以上に巨大な価格差です。

今日のBusiness & Financeのトップ記事。日本企業が取り上げられた。珍しい、嬉しい。

記事をよく読むと、ANAの戦略を述べているだけではない。

「増資発表前に株価が下がった」ということに関し、情報漏えいがあったんではないかという観点から縷々書かれている。いやらしい感じ。 

【企業】Facebook and GM talk new friendship説明：こういうタイトルの付け方、おもしろいですね。

小見出しに、After a high-profile split with the auto maker, Facebook is trying to prove that its advertisements do work. とあり。

なるほど、GMは広告再開するんですね。

 

【社会】【中国】Watching how China censors websites説明：中国当局が検閲をどうやっているか、香港大学の研究者が研究者がかなり解明したという記事。SinaというSNSの投稿と削除の動きを見て、当局が削除する傾向を見つけ出したそうである。SNS投稿の13％が検閲され、検閲は投稿の24時間以内になされているという。すごいね。

昨日の日曜はPNBアセット・マネジメント・ジャパン（株）のオフィスの引っ越し。朝早くから夜遅くまで、随分時間がかかりました。日本橋から紀尾井町へ。ニューオータニガーデンコートの19階になります。

マレーシアから来た社員が地震の際に館内英語放送があるほうが安心できるだろう 、また、ホテルが隣接しており東京が被災しても安心ではないか、といったような理由で、変わったのです。日本橋のオフィスの持ち主が家賃を実勢に合わせて下げてくれなかったのも大きな理由になりました。http://www.english-resume.net/indiv/bldg_newotani.php

説明：

胡錦濤Hu Jintaoが新しい香港の行政院長梁振英Leung Chun-yingの就任式を主催ためにやってきた。英国から香港が中国に返還されて15年目のお話し。それに合わせて香港の自由を維持し中国での人権活動を擁護するデモが巻き起こっていると言う記事。15年前を考えると、「香港が中国化」されるのを多くの人が恐れていた。しかし実際に起きたのは「中国の香港化」であった。

欧州首脳会議の後、ドイツが態度を軟化させたと言う報道が多い。それを好感し、株式市場を上昇している。本当にそうだろうか。プロレスには悪玉(Heel)と善玉(Babyface)がいる。ドイツは、時には悪玉を、時には善玉を前面に立てるのだろう。悪玉善玉は時に忠実にその役割を果たし、時には協調したり、時にはその役割を替えたりもする。

Germany has two skilful wresters. Angela Merkel is a heel, and Wolfgang Schauble is a babyface. We should be careful about their functions and who controls the next act!

文章：ニュアンスを伝えるためにドイツのSchauble蔵相の発言を詳しく引用します。

説明：

従来のメルケル首相の発言に比べ、柔軟性に富むショーブル蔵相の発言が、メディアには好意的にとらえられ、見出しに現れている。これからどう進むのかな。

ショーブルの発言を読むとメルケルの発言とさして変わらないような気もする。

ドイツ首脳の発言をとらえメディアは一喜一憂しているが、ドイツはしたたか。メルケルが悪玉。ショーブルが善玉を使い分けているような気もする。事態の進展に応じて、悪玉と善玉が交互に出てくるような気がする。

showdown: 対決、天王山、（ポーカーのショーダウンが語源）

uphold: 支える

linchpin: 要、（車輪を留めるピンが語源）

説明：

この文章での言葉の使い方を見ても、WSJの記者は今回の最高裁の判断を気に入ってないことがわかる。　showdwonとかlinchpinとか、珍しい言葉で、最高裁の判断が「ギャンブル」（賭け）であり「西部劇」（乱暴）のようなものであることを隠喩している、と読むのが正しいだろう。

説明：

RIMを知らなくてもBlackberryを知っている人は多いだろう。2000年代の初め、米国のビジネスマンの殆どがBlackberryを使っていた。今でも使っている人は多いと思われる。私も使っている。欠点は画面が小さい。長所は入力が容易。

会社は混乱していたのだな、と実感させる記事。

Co-CEO体制はうまく言っているときは良いが、上手くいかなくなると弱い。

新CEOは会社の売却を否定してない。こうなると優秀な社員は船から逃げようとするので、企業価値を維持するのがますます難しくなる。

説明：

中国の富裕層がフロリダやカリフォルニアのコンドミニアムをじゃんじゃん購入している。それに合わせて、開発業者は中国人購入者に気にいられるように、風水に注意を払ったり、数字に気をつけている。8の付く部屋を中国人仕様にするとか。

私は一時期トロントの住んでいたが、ちょうど香港の中国返還の時期で、香港人の多くがカナダの不動産を買った時期だった。人気があったのは、RichmondとかRichlandとかGold Mountainとか、富や金に関連する地名を持つ地区であった。

今日の記事で、Barclays PLCがLIBORを不正に操作していたという記事がありました。このような不正は、（組織を挙げてという色彩もありそう。まだそこまでの追及はなされていないが）どのようにすれば防げると思いますか？正解は多分ない。そのように問いかけてゆくことが大事なのだろうと思います。

lurk: lark(ひばり)は知ってるけどlurkは見たことなかった。潜在する、隠れて待つ

説明：

「中国の銀行は、富裕者向けに投資商品を販売しておりその残高は銀行預金の12％にもなる。これらの商品の実体は、短期MMF、長期の債券を組みあわせたものである。例えば、典型的な商品は6カ月満期で4.5%の金利がつくが、これが3カ月定期2.85%,6カ月定期3.05%の基準金利よりかなり高い。預金者が預金を継続している間は良いが、預金の引き出し時、あるいは金融環境の変化時には銀行は大きなリスクを負うことになる。」という記事。

まあ、典型的な短期調達、長期運用のミスマッチですね。金利低下時はよいが、金利上昇時には銀行は苦しくなる。

説明：

久しぶりに知らない単語の多く出てきた記事。殆どは意味を類推できるが。

この記事では、中央政府の住宅政策に反する多くの地方都市の例が出ている。

Henan（河南）, Foshan（佛山）, Wuhu(蕪湖)　, Shijiazhuang（石家庄） 等である。

中央政府の統制が緩んでいる様子が見られるが、権力闘争の一つの表れであろうか。

説明：

難しい単語があるわけではないが、インド経済の記事を取り上げたい。

最近インドは不調・不振と言われるがそれほど悪いのか？記事によると、3月末までの過去一年間のGDP成長率は6.5%. 財政赤字は5.8%、経常収支の赤字はGDP比4%.

とのこと。

それほど悪くは見えないが。最近のルピアの下落が大きい。外資規制の緩和の必要性が記事では取り上げられている。シン首相への期待が高い。

見出し：Barclays settles probe for $453.6 million

文章：Barclays PLC said it will pay GBP290 million ($453.6 million) to settle a long-running probe by U.S. and UK regulators into allegation that traders at the bank manipulated interbank-lending rates.

単語：

probe: 違法行為の捜査、査察

説明：

今までこの類の記事は何回も目にしてきが、詳しく読んだことがなかった。なぜLIBORを意図的に低くしたか考えてみた。理由は二つ。①銀行全体として調達コストが低く見える。金融危機時に信用力があるように見え、調達に有利。②固定金利受け、変動金利払いの金利スワップ取引では、容易に利ザヤが拡大する。トレーダーが金利表示担当者に意図的に低くしてくれと要請していたというのはこれが理由であろう。
